Blood Shot Eyes. Trembling Knees. Hyped Up Souls.

                It’s a big day; we’ve waited for this day to come for this is the day that we will set our wings free. I arrived at APC at exactly 5:50, you may be wondering why; the reason why I came that early is because I haven’t slept yet consider the fact that I don’t usually go to school early even if my house is nearby. I’ve been eating my blogs and essays all night long, and my will power doesn’t seem to run out and I can still feel the fire in me, the willingness, and the thirst for victory.

                Before we started with our speech choir, an award was given to my very lovely, smart, and creative block-mate, Manuela Roxas. The speech choir competition haven’t started yet, but our block already won an award, we are not assuming that we are going to win, but we do believe that if we did our best, the chances are high for us to win. We were assigned as the 4th performer in the speech choir, it was alternated, speech choir, then ignite, then speech choir, and so on and so forth. ABMA 153 and 155 were the first performer, and this I tell you, they are the perfect group if you are looking for a kick, they did a perfect jump start for the competition. One down and two more before us. The next performer was also good, but not great (I’m not criticizing their performance, but I wasn’t really satisfied with their performance.) Then there’s ABMA 152,hmp… they also did good. Fast forward to our performance, everyone had their smiles on their faces some have their poker face on. And~ boom! Our AVP started playing, and boom! Everything that happened next was really absurd. Haha! All I can say is that we did our best, and I think (strongly opinionated, I’m sorry) that we did it magnificently.

 

                *Drum roll* another performer from our block started speaking her speech, she’s no other than our very own Gem Bravo. Okay, another fast forward! Our block won several awards, 3^rd place in the speech choir competition, best ERC logo (Manuela Roxas), Public Speaking Competition Champion (Jod Gulle), Ignite Competition (Gem Bravo)

Public Speaking Competition

Game of Speaking Skills: Day 1

Another day to remember and might as well mark it on my calendar.

                It’s just another normal day, hot temperature, few students because it’s a Wednesday. All of us were on chill mode, except for the public speaking contestants. It was a Wednesday, and the only class we have on that day is APPROJ, and we all know that we ABMA students aren’t that much obliged to attend the class because the SoMA Week is done. It was supposed to be our rest day (assumption only.) the fact that attendance isn’t necessary, me and my block-mates went to school and go straight ahead to the auditorium and supported our ABMA 151 brethren.

                The contestants went to a separate room; they left the auditorium because there was elimination for them. So here’s the most embarrassing and yet, the most amusing moment of the day, we audiences (ABMA students and SoE students) together with some members of APC Speaks were tasked to buy the contestants some time while they are out there fighting for the eight spots. My block-mate Marlou went to the stage for speed speech and won 1^st place. Now, here’s the highlight of my blog, me and Frits Alferez was chosen to represent our block for the debate. We were both nervous and we still managed to laugh at each other. So the topic was “Which is better, to walk from APC to Lapu-Lapu or ride the shuttle?” So Frits and I chose the walking side. frits stated that it’s more healthier to walk and plus, it is economical. While I on the same side spoke about that we are living in a poor country and the opposite side dares to “LANG” three pesos. At the end we all had fun.

                So moving on to the competition, two of my block-mates qualified for the finals, it was Jod and Jerica. Oh wait, there’s also this one girl who spoke about Megamind and the other villains who fought for their integrity, I like her speech so much. Back to my block-mates, Jerica was good, her speech was great but Jod on the other hand, outshined all the other contestants; his speech was marvelous, incredible, astounding. His speech was the best.

                So might as well say farewell! I have to say goodbye now because I haven’t slept for days now, and it’s unjustifiable!!! I have to fight for it! Integrity at its finest! Ciao!

Bomba Night

                It was already six o ‘clock in the evening and the event haven’t started yet, and there I was at the parking lot with some of my friends. We’ve waited for like almost an hour, and my balls are so itchy because I’ve been longing for this night. I was really excited; I was so ready to unleash the beast within me. If I’m not mistaken, me and the gang entered the cafeteria around 6:45 and everyone was chilling, swaying with every stroke of melody and harmony.

                Let’s go a little bit about Bomba Night - it’s the main highlight of our very own SoMA Week where everyone is invited to rock and bang their heads to death, not to mention that there are local bands that are going to play. That night, we had Black Lustre, SUD, adnd WilaBaliw. So here’s one thing you should know about that night, there was FREE KOPIKO 78c for the first 200 audiences. Sad to say, I wasn’t able to get some in the entrance but luckily! Luckily I found one right at the chair I was sitting on. Man, it was so good.

                Well, I was just a starter; come on, I’m just a froshie but the thing is I didn’t feel like a froshie because that night, I felt like everyone in the cafeteria was my friend, I felt like we were all in the same age. We were just out there rocking along with every band that played. Let me tell the things I liked the most that night, first is black lustre that played one of my favorite local song called Paperskin by Jejaview. Second is the crowd, there’s no perfect way to describe the crowd. Third is WilaBaliw, I enjoyed every single song they played; it was one hell of a rock! Lastly, my most favorite part was when SUD took the stage. To be honest, I almost got pregnant by their music. C’mon man, who doesn’t like that sexy, smooth, and silky music that’ll give you eargasm? I bet everyone likes it…… except for the haters.

                There’s no better way to end the SoMA week, I can say that Bomba Night was a boom. And to end the perfect night, I walked my way home with a very nice person…. To be continued in another story line. Good bye!

Who Wants to be a Millionaire: College Week Edition

                From United Kingdom and made its way here at APC, the ERC(English Resource Center) were proud to present the Who Wants To be a Millionaire: College Week Edition. From the title itself, a lot of viewers might expect a million cash price. Well let me tell you this, the school won’t give that, even the wealthiest man here in our country. But hey! At least the winners gets to win a cash worth three thousand pesos (I’m not really sure with the price because I forgot it.)

                To pump the fired up folks, the first round started. The round was totally easy, just like warm up jumper, but sad to say, my block-mates wasn’t able to get the first two questions but that didn’t pull my brethrens down, they were able to push themselves and earn a spot in the next round, which is the average round.

                The average round was a little bit rugged up, the organizers had a little misconception which regards to the flow of the contest. It didn’t took long enough to continuo on with the program. Every team did their best, but as the saying goes, there will always be victorious side; and unfortunately, my block-mates weren’t able to qualify for the next round, which is the Final round.

                Finally, the final round, only two teams remained, ABMA 152 and ABMA 136.  Both teams are really good, they were so competent that they had tying score. And it was time for the clincher round, as for me, I call it “Sudden Death Round.” Hard questions were thrown to them; I assume that it’s hard because I can’t answer some of the question. But as usual, there should be a winner, and the victorious team was ABMA 136, earning a cash price of 3,500 (still not sure of the price) and for the 1^st runner up ABMA 152 earned 1,500. It was a win-win situation for both of the team because both of them received a cash price.

                It was really fun watching that competition, not to mention that I learned some facts I didn’t knew before about literary. Despite the loss of my block-mates, they showed fighting spirit, giving all their best. At the end of the day, the question is “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”

Benjamin Alves (a.k.a. Andrew Cesaro) visits Asia Pacific College

Every day we get a blessing, sometimes we may not be aware of it but we are fortunate enough, unlike the other’s who struggle to live. We can consider our everyday lives as a blessing, every day counts as a gift. The fact is, anything could be a blessing, a place, thing, or a person. Last March 18, 2016 at the Multipurpose Hall 1 (Mph1), Asia Pacific College was fortunate to have a special guest to share his blessings with the students and staffs of the college.

Presented by GMA Artist Center, the foundation of actors and actresses of GMA together with the cooperation Ms. Eliz Reyes and the English Resource Center (ERC) brings Benjamin Alves; Summa cum Laude graduate of University of Guam with a degree in English Literature, Andrew Cesario in the cinemalaya film “Sana Dati”, and the actor of Lt. Manuel Quezon in the film “Heneral Luna.” He went to the school not only to celebrate his upcoming birthday but to share his blessings and experiences in the industry.

The event was jumpstarted by Ms. Tess Bomb, hosting a couple of games like pinoy henyo. Later, she introduced Benjamin Alves to take the floor. After the moment of introduction, then he welcomed the top 3 winners of the Slam Poetry: Art of the Spoken Word 2 to perform their slam poetry. Not only did the top 3 winners showcase their piece, Benjamin Alves also performed his own piece.

                APCians were in for a treat because not only did they hear the piece of Benjamin and the performers but also given a chance to ask the questions they were eager to ask during the Q & A portion. A lot of sponsors were there such as Blue Water Days Spa, Jing Monis Salon, Pandelton, Fernando’s, Zagu, and many more; The 24 oras was also there to document the event.  Before the event ended, the students and staffs inside mph1 received foods and beverages, plus a cap for them to keep.

                It was an afternoon filled with fun and joy before the students go to their places. It was surely a day to remember for both the APC community and Benjamin Alves.

The Bear who found a Family

Love is something that comes out of nowhere even in the oddest places, it is absurd or sometimes invisible, love is unpredictable.

                Knowing that everything is fine, a happy home, a complete family, and a TASTY JARS OF MARMALADE; then come a massive earthquake that destroys the home of Peruvian bears. Now that the home of the Peruvian bears was destroyed, only two remained, Aunt Lucy and her nephew.

                The movie is about a Peruvian bear that tries to find a home in the land that he knew as a welcome city, a city where everyone was friendly, caring, a city where he thought he could find a home. He was almost gave up on finding someone who could give him a home but suddenly, a woman (Mrs. Brown) came by and adopted him, not to mention that she gave him a name, Paddington. Being with the Brown Family, he was so happy, he felt like it was home. The only thing that bothers him is Mr. Brown, making him feel like he is not accepted; as for his solution, he ran away; never aware that there was also a woman that intends to capture him for her own collection. At the end, the browns and Paddington lived happily.

                From the past movies I’ve watched, this is something different. Dramas, horror, comedy, and a lot of other genres, this one is unique. It depicts how love can be seen in the oddest places and in the most critical time. What I really loved in this movie is the adventurous scenes and funny parts. Despite the fact that it’s an animated and fiction movie, I can still see the wholeness of the movie, and when I say the “wholeness” I mean the essence of the movie; the way it moved me to another world where I feel like I’m also part of that movie. I really did enjoy watching this movie, and I am really thankful for having Ms. Eliz letting us watch this movie

Turn Left Turn Right

                Love is something unpredictable, sometimes invisible, or sometimes really absurd.

                Every single time, I speak to myself, saying “why are you still single, are you going to be like this forever?” my answer to that is NO. Maybe I haven’t met the destined person for me yet, or maybe I’ve met her before, or maybe she’s already in front of me while I’m busy looking at the other fascinating things that doesn’t make any sense. But when a two person is really fated to be a pair, that’s destiny.

                                Turn Left Turn Right is the movie everyone should watch, I mean not entirely everyone but those who are aspiring love seekers. It is a romantic drama movie, although I still consider it a little bit comedic because there were scenes that made me laugh a bit. It’s a story of a man and a woman meeting all over again, continuing the unfinished book of their love story. The man was just a simple guy, living in his own apartment, alone together with his violin. Moreover, the woman was also a loner, living on her own; she is a writer/translator who really loves polish love poems. Actually, they’ve met before, back when they were still in high school. After several years, they’ve met again. This time, the man saved the woman “again” by helping her pick up the papers that fell into the fountain. The following events triggered a conflagration of love between them. Days later did they realize that were living next to each other. As a matter of fact, two persons tried to separate them from each other but ended up failing. It only proves that if someone was truly destined for that certain person, they are inseparable. Love will always find its way.

                The fact that this movie wasn’t really true, I mean it’s a fiction novel, everything didn’t happen, it’s a story that everyone can imagine to be true even if it’s a fairy tale. Everyone has their own dreams right? So there’s no point on hindering someone’s fantasy of having their own lover. Like what I’ve said, love is unpredictable and absurd, it may fool you or even cause you your despair but in the end, you’ll realize that love is something worth waiting for, and if it doesn’t come that’s the time for you to search.
